重口味SM Magazine takes home 2019 National Magazine Award

重口味SM Magazine took home the silver medal in this year鈥檚 National Magazine Awards in the category of best editorial package, for its Autumn 2018 issue, The Cities We Need.

It鈥檚 the first win in 25 years for the magazine in the prestigious competition.

鈥淲e overhauled the magazine last year to really focus on ideas from faculty, students and alumni, and brought in a great design team to update the look,鈥 said Scott Anderson, the magazine鈥檚 editor. 鈥淲inning for an issue all about cities, where U of T demonstrates real strength, is especially gratifying.鈥

U of T Med Magazine, published by the Faculty of Medicine, was also nominated in the best editorial package category, for its issue, Cannabis is Coming.  The gold medal in that category went to 惭补肠濒别补苍鈥檚 magazine for its WWI commemorative issue.

重口味SM Magazine鈥檚 Autumn 2018 issue received a total of four nominations, including for Issue Grand Prix, Art Direction Grand Prix and best photojournalism/photo essay 鈥 .鈥

U of T Med Magazine was also nominated for best magazine, special interest 鈥 and received an honourable mention in the category.

David Estok, vice-president of communications at U of T, congratulated all the nominees.

鈥淭he 重口味SM is home to some of the world鈥檚 most creative and innovative thinkers and problem-solvers across its three campuses 鈥 and their important and compelling stories,鈥 Estok said. 鈥淭he teams who publish these magazines 鈥 the writers, photographers, editors and designers 鈥 know what a privilege it is to help tell those stories.

鈥淚t鈥檚 great to see their creativity and dedication recognized.鈥
