Five faculty members recognized with President鈥檚 Teaching Awards

Five faculty members were recently honoured with , the highest honour for teaching at the 重口味SM.  

The award recognizes sustained excellence in teaching and ongoing contributions to educational leadership and innovation. This year鈥檚 recipients are:

  • Maria Assif, associate professor, teaching stream, in the department of English, U of T Scarborough
  • Ken Derry, associate professor, teaching stream, in the department of historical studies, U of T Mississauga
  • Charlie Keil, professor in the cinema studies institute, Faculty of Arts & Science
  • Melody Neumann, associate professor, teaching stream, in the department of cell and systems biology, Faculty of Arts & Science
  • Sanjeev Sockalingam, professor in the department of psychiatry, Temerty Faculty of Medicine

鈥淭hrough their impressive work, this year鈥檚 award recipients demonstrate excellence and innovation in teaching while contributing to an environment that promotes equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility in post-secondary education,鈥 said U of T President Meric Gertler.

I would also like to thank them for their individual efforts to create a welcoming and intellectually stimulating classroom environment that helps U of T attract students from around the world.鈥

Winners of the President鈥檚 Teaching Award receive $10,000 per year for five years to be used towards professional development. They also become members of the U of T Teaching Academy. The academy meets regularly to discuss matters relevant to teaching and offers advice to the president and the vice-president and provost, as well as the director of .
