UTSB will host Michael Landsberg, host of Off The Record, and many more

Raptors, NFL, Twitter, more to meet with students at Sports Business Association conference

Lineup offers a 360-degree look at sports industry

Leaders from the Toronto Maple Leafs, Bloomberg Sports, Nike, UFC and more will be at the Rotman School of Management on 12 March meeting with student fans and those eager to pursue sports business as a career.

The stakes are raised with this third annual conference and career fair, hosted by the 重口味SM Sports Business Association (UTSB), now in collaboration with the Rotman Sports Business Club:

The program includes top-calibre presenters such as Off the Record host Michael Landsberg, NFL Players Association president Keith Gordon, Twitter Canada executive Debora Silveira, senior administrators and consultants for the Toronto Raptors and Toronto Maple Leafs, representatives from Nike and Under Armour, as well as U of T experts such as Timothy Chan, Matt Mitchell and Richard Powers.

UTSB president and Bachelor of Commerce student Malcolm Mo spoke with U of T News about this year's event and why it's been designed for sports enthusiasts from any academic background.

What鈥檚 new at this year鈥檚 conference?
This year, what delegates will notice is the diversity in our speakers. With speakers like Michael Landsberg (Host of Off The Record), Dwayne De Rosario (Striker, Toronto FC), Alex Rucker (Senior Analytics Consultant of the Toronto Raptors) and Keith Gordon (President of NFL Players Inc.) all facets of the sports industry are being represented.

By involving guest speakers from the front office, coaching staff, athletes, as well as the media, we are able to give students a 360-degree look at the sports industry.

What are the three things you鈥檙e most excited about?
1. The Sports Analytics Panel
This is a topic that hasn鈥檛 got a lot of attention in Canada yet. After attending the MIT Sloan Analytics Conference, I am really excited to get the discussion started in Canada about this new trend in evaluating athlete performance with statistical analysis.

2. Michael Landsberg
Being a huge fan of his show, Off The Record, I can鈥檛 wait to meet him in person and to listen to the advice he has for students who want to work in the sports industry.

3. The career fair
This year we are bringing out big names in the sports industry to our career fair and I can鈥檛 wait to show recruiters the world class talent that U of T has to offer.

What else do you want people to know about the UTSB conference?
Readers should know that this is a conference for everyday sports fans and not just for students interested in a career in the sports industry. Sports is a topic that is understood and loved by all, whether you are an athlete or just a fan - sports is rooted in passion.

We at UTSB aim to create a platform here at the 重口味SM that unites students of all academic backgrounds to join in on this passion and discuss the world of sports.

Whether you are a student studying arts, engineering, life sciences, law, business or math, if you love sports then this is a conference you do not want to miss!
